Obtaining permanent immigration in Denmark

Denmark has given a red carpet to professionals who desire to work overseas and even migrate in Denmark permanently through the Denmark green card scheme as well as other schemes. Besides providing the opportunity to work overseas, if you are a Danish green card holder, your children’s education and health care is catered for free of charge.

If you obtained a 3 year renewable residence and work permit during your first application for a Denmark green card and it was extended to one year, such that you have been in Denmark for four years and you are above the age of 18 then you can be granted a permanent residence on application for one but you have to meet certain requirements. The good thing about applying for permanent Denmark immigration is the fact that you do not have to keep on applying for extensions of your permit and you can stay there for whichever duration. However, if you still are not eligible for this then you can apply for an extension of your permit.

To obtain a permanent residence permit you have to manage at least 100 points that are awarded after meeting the laid down conditions in the Danish green card scheme and these are divided into:

Fundamental requirements- all the conditions in this section have to be met and you obtain a total of 70 points. These include; having resided in Denmark for the past four years, no criminal record for serious crimes, not having overdue public debts and several others.

Active citizenship- in this section you obtain 15 points and you are required to show that you have been an active Denmark citizen.

Supplementary requirements- in this section you obtain 15 points for showing that you have had a full time job in Denmark for a minimum of 4 years and you will retain your job even after being granted the permanent residence. Also there are certain programs that you must have completed and passed a Danish language test.

Summary

Failure to obtain 100 points leads to automatic disqualification for obtaining a permanent residence permit but there are exceptions to every rule this one inclusive.
