Denmark Greencard scheme

Anyone can be allowed to work and live in Denmark if he/ she scores enough points on the Denmark greencard scheme. The points are awarded based on such criteria s he applicant’s language skills, work experience, education and age. The minimum amount of points that a person has to accumulate to qualify for a residence or working visa under the Danish Greencard scheme is 100. Successful applicants are also allowed to bring along their families.

Apart from these 100 points, the Denmark Greencard scheme also requires the applicant to have a health insurance policy. Proof that the applicant can support himself in the first year is also required.

The Denmark Greencard scheme awards points for applicants with a bachelor’s degree and above. Generally the higher your level of education, the more the number of points awarded. However, international standards are also considered. Degrees from certain universities or countries may not be considered the equivalent of those acquired in Danish institutions. A fine example is bachelor degrees from Pakistani colleges which are considered the equivalent of a Danish high school diploma. Bonus points are also awarded if the degree was obtained form a university ranked in the top 400 in the world. The higher the university ranking, the more the number of bonus points will be awarded. An education certificate that qualifies an immigrant to work in the positive list can also be awarded a few bonus points.

The second criterion under which points are awarded in the Denmark Greencard scheme is work experience. The points awarded depend on the duration you have been working in a field of work whose jobs are listed on the positive list. However, points can still be earned if you have sufficient experience in other professions that are regarded as useful in Denmark.

The Denmark Greencard scheme also assesses the adaptability of the individual to the Danish culture. People who have previously worked in the EU region or residents of Nordic countries can be awarded 15 points for adaptability. Adaptability also includes language. The applicant has to prove that he can fluently communicate in English, German, Danish or other Nordic languages. Knowledge of fluent Danish is an added bonus as up to 20 points can be earned.
